• @whitesidewjw, @tfdesigns. Walter, Tom gave me his differential last weekend at the Q1 meeting, so I’ll have it with me tomorrow to try out on the drums. It just mounts between the motor and the drive shaft for the drums, so it should be pretty easy to incorporate it.

  • I would plan on getting there by 1:30 same as last time, but since we haven’t heard from Walter yet, I guess that’s tentative at the moment. If Walter can’t make it on Sat., then we would need to reschedule for another weekend.

  • @whitesidewjw, Tom Frost built a differential for us that will build in a “pause” between when the motor reverses direction and when the drums start rotating and the cars start moving again. Can’t wait to try it out on Sat.!

They’re baa..ack!!! Looks like some new figs, accessories, turret pieces and other themed “stuff”, and the price seems decent with 10 mini-figs included. The Whomping Willow set could also be a nice addition depending on what’s included and where they price it.

  • Saturday Feb. 24th works for me. I should have the modifications we discussed to the track support structure finished by then. FYI, I also tried the smaller wheels on one of the cars, and they didn’t work very well. The only axle I could get to work with those small wheels was the same as is used for wagon wheels, and the wheels tend to skid on…[Read more]

We have a working prototype!! The cars each have separate cables on their own drums (one under wind and one over wind), on a single motor and axle, with a toggle switch activated as each car reaches the top to reverse the direction of the motor.

We got this working last Saturday at Josh’s and ran it for about 20 minutes without any hick-ups!! A…[Read more]

  • Walter, I plan on being there on Saturday, Feb. 3rd. I’ve made some progress on improving the support structure for the incline, and on building a second car. If you’ve been able to work on the mechanical drum system and toggle switch we discussed last time, then I think it would be worthwhile to put the them together and see how well they…[Read more]

I’ll be there as well, and will bring what I’ve been playing around with for “incline support”.

  • Greg, I think the size of the cars needs to be determined first, plus the spacing between tracks, and then the buildings scaled around them. Here’s a couple of pics that I grabbed off of the internet for the cars. I’m thinking 8 x 16 for the floor area of the car at a minimum. I think Walter already has a couple of cars rough built, so maybe he…[Read more]

  • I’m available on the 20th to meet at Josh’s house. I agree with Walter’s points that the first meeting should be together to work out the items he mentions, and that we should see what we can do to use LUG brick wherever we can. After that we can divvy stuff up as to who works on what parts.

I’m glad to hear that Tom has donated some old style…[Read more]

  • Couple of thoughts that could prove to be interesting builds:
    * Piano House – China.
    * I.M. Pei design for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Kings Cross Station has a clock tower, but you’d have to swap out the blue for something closer to the photo, or to your Kings Cross building color scheme.

Got it!! Thanks @digivolution, I’ll let you know about the wings!!

Looks Awesome Duncan!! Are you planning to build it?? If not, can you send me the LDD file so I can take a shot at it??

  • True for the upper building, but the bottom building is brick (see below). Looks to me like the medium dark flesh brick will be a close enough match for that one.

  • I’m in for this one as well!! After we discussed it on Saturday, I actually started pulling down some images of the cars and the upper and lower station buildings off of the internet, have started thinking about ways to build the incline and the cars at the 30 degree angle, and to make the hillside as “modular” as possible for transport/display…[Read more]

I had a building labeled “Ollivanders” at Greenberg’s, but it was just one of my Hogsmeade buildings (with nothing inside) “re-branded” to give us more buildings for Diagon Alley.

The roof of the new one is in 2 halves with both removable, so I can pull one or both off to make it more “display friendly”!
