I’ve kept a few boxes over the years, which I still use to storing pieces (Main Street 6390 and Mobile Rocket Transport 6950), mainly because they had nice plastic and Styrofoam inserts. I’ve kept a few others as well; mainly large sets. But otherwise, I generally recycle the boxes immediately. No room for box storage.

  • Very, very, very cool! It’s more creative with the lids, IMHO. I’m super impressed not just with the build itself, but with the relative speed at which you cranked out such a top notch MOC.

@JoshHall, yes I have a bin from the Scout event in late November. I meant to bring to Q4 but then could not make it. I will bring to Q1 or can run it down if you need it earlier (I should have brought it to the ICF press event).

You could then see if anyone had responded to your last post without actually clicking on the topic. If you saw your own avatar, there were (obviously) no further updates. If there was an easy way to bring…[Read more]

The rhino looks great. Good use of the sloped bricks for shaping.

Interesting that they used 10 different scales throughout the model.

  • Slight threadjack: there are some nice modular style creations on this page – https://www.flickr.com/groups/bricktowntalk/pool/ – although it has not been updated since January 2015. Some of these have appeared on The Brothers Brick as well.

Works great! Fantastic pictures. I really like how you put Hagrid’s hut up on a hill. I never liked how the later movies (3+) portrayed his hut as being so far away from the school and down in a steep valley. The books always gave me the impression that it was not far from the Castle. My favorite picture is the light up shot. 100 points to…[Read more]

Very nice, Bob. That is the first Hogwarts I’ve seen done in gray rather than tan. You’ve really packed in a lot of great details, including all of the named Towers (Griffidor, Ravenclaw, Astronomy). I would love to see this in person.

Welcome, Bob. We’ve made a start on the Hogwarts Great Hall and had it on display back in November. There are a few pictures in the LUG’s Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/misterfrost/30971946195/in/pool-steelcitylug/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/misterfrost/30883635761/in/pool-steelcitylug/. Looking forward to seeing your Hogwarts!

Some various rounded slopes built SNOT should work well. You could also use rounded plates on the side of the legs to give a more 3D look (I hope that makes sense – difficult to describe). I like how this is looking. Can’t wait to see it (and the entirety) in action. 🙂

Currently working on: (i) sorting and breaking down old MOCs which are no longer viable or which I need pieces for new MOCs; (ii) general cleaning in the Lego area of my basement; and (iii) planning new MOCs for this coming year’s displays. Pictures of any of these activities would be boring at best. 😀

AFOL Days are February 4, April 29, August 5, and November 4.

August 5 is right during BrickFair VA so the Tysons Corner and Potomac Mills Stores will be slammed.

I also was unaware of those actions, just that there was some “bad blood” between the BF and BFL groups. That starts to make more sense now. Ben, thanks for the background.

I’m not trying to make any political statements or choose sides when going to any particular convention. I’m going because I want to go and have fun (and it fits in my…[Read more]

Agreed, I feel that they would welcome our participation but don’t want to have to rely upon it. As you said about BF Cincy, it was disappointing that the local LUG did not even show up. Considering the date, this might be a good opportunity for a “trial run” for whatever we may end up displaying at BFVA (assuming that we will do a group display…[Read more]

I thought it was “paranormal psychology” but it’s been awhile since I saw the whole movie. He gives his academic credentials near the beginning as I remember. One of the best yet understated scenes in the entire movie is the scene where he is “testing” the students on their ability to guess the cards and keeps shocking the guy, even when he…[Read more]

  • I can not go to BWC this year but am planning to go to BFVA (no more Cub Scout summer camp conflict). Slight threadjack here, but it would be nice to get a preliminary roll call of who is considering what Conventions for 2017 (my apologies if this was done at the Q4). We can then discuss the Q1 meeting the available 2017 conventions and get a…[Read more]
