Benjamin C GoodParticipantBrickFair VA will be held from July 30 to August 3, Wednesday through Sunday, at the Dulles Expo in Chantilly VA, in 2025. http://www.brickfair.com
Registration is not up yet. The top item on the News page, which has been there since September, says that we should expect it in January, but only if the contract with the venue is signed by then. (I don’t know what the holdup is; in the past, we could sign up the day after the previous one ended.) There won’t be hotel reservation through the site until registration is open.
It is likely that, for the third consecutive year, Steel City LUG will have our own display area at the venue. *** We want to submit our table request sometime in March *** This means that, although the event may seem far away, if you plan to take part, the time to start thinking about your build is this winter.
We will create a spreadsheet for table requests and then come up with a plan based on that. Unless somebody has other suggestions, I am thinking the spreadsheet will close either March 9 or 16. I will be attending Fredericksburg next year, so I would like to get it submitted before the week of the 24th, even though Todd probably won’t look at it much until after FXBG.
We also need somebody to be the group leader. In ’23 it was Krista and in ’24 it was me. I can help out, especially with coming up with and drawing table plans, but I am doing GBC for this event, so I will not be displaying or spending much time in our area in ’25, and I will not be able to be in the area right at noon on Wednesday. So volunteers are welcome.
This event is also on the agenda for the Q4 meeting on Saturday, and I plan to be there, so I can answer any questions at that time as well.

TimModeratorI am thinking the spreadsheet will close either March 9 or 16.
I think this is a good timeline.

Will McDineParticipantSubbed. I already have the week off for this event so I will be attending. I will be down for at least one 8ft table. I will likely do what I did last year and just take the same stuff to both Chantilly and Erie if I am being completely honest.
As far as the timeline for submitting a table layout, I think that is completely acceptable.

matthewmParticipantNew member here and new to BrickFair…the website shows a fair in Fredericksburg on March 29-30, 2025. So is it that there also another one at Dulles on the dates you mentioned?
Does anyone go to the Fredericksburg one?
Thanks!

>> Does anyone go to the Fredericksburg one?The Chantilly one will show up on the website eventually, presumably once the contract with the venue is signed.
The Chantilly one is the big one, and has been running since 2008. Off the top of my head, the LUG had eleven members in our display area in 2024.
The Fredericksburg one is smaller and is an hour farther away by car. To my knowledge, the only person in the group who has gone to it is me, in 2023. I am registered for 2025 and there is a thread for it:

matthewmParticipantOk awesome. I appreciate the extra info. I’m from VA so I may try to do both.
Thanks!

Jonathan WagnerParticipantSubbing, very interested in this.

Krista KModeratorThat timeline sounds great. I’m good for at least 1 table.
January 8, 2025 at 2:40 pm #62326
Will McDineParticipantYou can also put me down for one table.
January 10, 2025 at 3:23 pm #62402
Benjamin C GoodParticipantRegistration for this event is now open. If you think you’re going to want to reserve a room at the HI, I would do it now.
January 10, 2025 at 10:26 pm #62411
Will McDineParticipantAlexis and I are registered and have a room reserved. In regard to the hotel, last year I seem to remember their Room block being 150 rooms. This year it seems to only be 100, So I agree rooms should be your first priority with this one. Last year the hotel was undergoing some much needed updating as far as I could tell, So I would suspect that is to blame, but I am still curious why such a large drop in rooms.
January 11, 2025 at 8:07 am #62421
Krista KModeratorWe just registered too. Doing the hotel today 🤞
January 11, 2025 at 10:56 am #62423
TimModeratorI just registered myself and Jacob. Not sure yet what I am bringing to display. I am leaning towards the Great Hall, which has not been displayed since BF Exton.
January 11, 2025 at 11:31 am #62425
Jonathan WagnerParticipantRegistered and hotel booked for Thursday thru Sunday.
Gonna bring Hoth again with it’s additional explosions (hopefully all lit up) and expanded snowfield. If you bring your part @timf, we can have it raised up and filled in more
January 11, 2025 at 10:08 pm #62438JR
ParticipantI will not be registered until my wallet recovers from the Holidays haha. I do plan on coming though! I might need two tables this year if possible.

ParticipantAny want for a HP collaboration? I think it would be fun to dip into Hogwarts for a project.

TimModeratorAny want for a HP collaboration? I think it would be fun to dip into Hogwarts for a project.
@jrbookworm yes, I am strongly considering bringing my Hogwarts Great Hall. The roof and spires need to be upgraded. I also need to add the rockwork underneath the kitchens. And if I can get all that done, I would like to add the front hall as well. Here are a few pics from when I last displayed it at BrickFair Exton in September 2022.
January 14, 2025 at 8:28 pm #62492
taflavinParticipantI am interested in this but don’t know if I can commit to the dates yet. I am pretty new at all this — do I register myself on the BrickFair Website and then display with the LUG? Sorry if that is a dumb question, just trying to get my head around it all.
January 15, 2025 at 12:10 pm #62499
TimModeratordo I register myself on the BrickFair Website and then display with the LUG?
@taflavin Yes, you create an account at Brickfair.com (look for the “Sign Up” link in the upper right corner). Then when you register for BrickFair VA, the registration process will ask if you are a member of a recognized LUG and you can enter “Steel City LUG” then.
We then work with BrickFair (Todd) to reserve display space as a LUG.
January 16, 2025 at 9:49 am #62519JR
ParticipantRegistered on the site! I’m thinking this year I will need two tables, but may be able to give up half of one if necessary. I plan on bringing most of the same MOCs I brought last year, plus some as I’ve been able to build more recently.
January 16, 2025 at 11:54 am #62526
TimModerator@jrbookworm Do you have a Quality Quidditch Supplies MOC? I have one that I did a few years back that is 16×32 but I want to expand it to 32×32.
February 9, 2025 at 10:55 am #63061
Tom FrostParticipantThe Frosts are officially registered. We will finalize what we are bringing, but I would preliminarily say Jonah and I will each need at least a full (single depth) table.
March 3, 2025 at 8:36 am #63415
Benjamin C GoodParticipantBelow is the link for the Google Doc for signing up for table space. Krista based it off the one we used last year, and I modified it based on what I think we need this time around.
Starting March 17, I will attempt to come up with a table layout based on what we have so far. Somebody else will need to submit it to Todd.
Reminder that because of a potential shortage of space, BrickFair is discouraging outright repeats from last year. MOCs should be new or a significant upgrade or revision of a previous one.
If there’s any questions or problems with the spreadsheet, let me know.
