Hi everyone!
I’m hosting an event in Bellevue called the “Brickvue Birdwalk.” The goal is to teach people of all ages about our native bird and tree canopies through the use of creative placemaking principles all through the prism of LEGO building. In a nutshell, people are invited to build LEGO birds representing various species native to SWPA and we’ll place them in tree throughout Bellevue. People can then take a “bird walk” and spot the models in trees. Each tree will have a different sign that discusses general ecology content of both birds and trees, encouraging people to think about tree tending, environmental sustainability, and more.
I’ve already secured ~$2,400 in funding, a majority of which comes from the National Aviary and the Audubon Society of Western PA.
I’m writing to encourage you all to consider participating in this event as either a participant, volunteer, supporter, or all combined.
Before I jump into further specifics, this Birdwalk concept is being modeled-out and replicated in other communities, such as Beaver, PA and Kane, PA – which speaks to the quality of the concept.
I would be honored if you would join!
The birdwalk itself is Saturday, October 11, from 12-5pm.
– Volunteers are needed for build events, placing models in trees, collecting models, and general transportation.
– Donations such as monetary donations or LEGO supply is greatly appreciated. Donations will support the Brickvue Birdwalk in future years -and- the Bellevue Elementary Brick Club.
– Participants are encouraged to make as many birds as they want. The birds can look like anything, accuracy of design is not the point of this. The models will be displayed at the October Bellevue Night Market, at the National Aviary at a special event, Bellevue Elementary, AHN Suburban Campus, Neighborhood North in Beaver Co., and potentially the Zoo and other various venues. Also hoping for the Science Center.
