cw142dParticipantThanks Ben!
We didn’t see the thread in time to sign up with the LUG for BrickFair. So Chuck and I registered…but I think that even we are split up based his being Star Wars and mine being mosaic/botanical. We don’t see our names anywhere on the map. We figured we’d find out when we got there, lol. We pretty much go with the flow…I’m hosting 2 set drafts and Chuck is hosting 2 set drafts. I’ll be working with the silent auction a good bit too.
We are both trying to get into the habit of checking both the Threads and discord a few times a day to not miss anything. We’re getting there, lol.

Tom FrostParticipantI’m also looking on the BrickFair site at everything registered for Steel City LUG, and I’m seeing that Frost @tfdesigns and Jonah have nothing registered.
Yep…on the “to-do” list…

Jonathan WagnerParticipant@bengood921 I used electricity last year and will be again this year. Pretty much give you a heavy duty utility box that has four outlets that connects to the circular connection that comes from the column. So yes you do need your own power strips. I’ll have my big one so anyone along our table area should be able to get to power no problem but anything that crosses over will have to be taped down of course but that shouldn’t be an issue.

Benjamin C GoodParticipant@taflavin I just got my email from the Holiday Inn that my room is booked and I should contact them with credit card information to confirm the reservation. I’m going to assume that that means everybody else should have their email already or very soon.
July 15, 2025 at 4:14 pm #65137
taflavinParticipantThanks for the heads up @bengood921! Got my email also.
July 15, 2025 at 9:31 pm #65143
Greg SchubertParticipantWe tried to call the general Holiday Inn reservation number as directed in the email, but they had no record of our reservation. However when we called the Chantilly hotel directly, we were able to provide our payment information.

This is a problem every year and it amazes me that they haven’t sorted it out yet. I haven’t called yet.
July 15, 2025 at 10:31 pm #65146
Will McDineParticipantI had the same problem last year and just bypassed the reservation number this year. The guy I spoke to at the time did sound a little rushed when I was talking to him though, so I might call them back tonight when the desk is likely slower to ensure everything is squared away.

TimModeratorBen mentioned in another thread that BFVA was less than two weeks away. Yikes! (As seems to happen every year) I still have a fair amount of building to complete. Looks like some late nights and long weekends are ahead! 😀

Jonathan WagnerParticipantCalled the reservation hotline, looked me up, no active reservation. Then tried to send me to some vacation giveaway thing.
Called Holiday Inn Chantilly, no problems, gave them my info.
@timf good thing you aren’t working on Hoth also!July 16, 2025 at 5:52 pm #65165JR
Participant*laughs nervously*
Got two buildings to finish and the front third of a space ship… if I finish the boathouse to go with your Great Hall I’ll be amazed as I haven’t started it yet… should probably get on that.

I got close to the same runaround. Only they took my cc in for before they said ‘we don’t seem to have the room you reserved’ and ‘could I put you on hold’. Then I got the vacation guy. Boy did he get a piece of my mind!🤪. I did call back and got talked to someone else who said everything was good and sent me my confirmation number. Here’s hoping it all works out.

Will McDineParticipantIf anyone is curious, games are officially sat. I got into the Tiger Plastics 1 and 2, as well as the GBC workshop, And am an alternate in the Ministry of Magic and the McLaren Parts drafts. Alexis is in the Tiger Plastics 1, checkers, and connect 4 tournaments.
It would also appear that several others continue to have issues with the hotel. In the Yak there is atleast one person who is saying neither the hotel or the 800 number has any listing of their Reservation.

Greg SchubertParticipantWhat does the “in hand” column mean for MOC registration? I am confusion.

Will McDineParticipantWhat does the “in hand” column mean for MOC registration? I am confusion.
I wondered that same thing myself. The best I figure (and I didnt understand it until this year) is that said MOC that you check “In Hand” for is a MOC that you hold in your hand for display or is “Wearable” thus not requiring table space.
July 18, 2025 at 12:13 am #65181
Greg SchubertParticipantnot requiring table space
This makes sense, because I am displaying with the LUG, so no theme coordinator has to fit it somewhere. However, the two MOC’s that I added today are also with the LUG and they are red, not green like the ones I entered weeks ago. So if that’s the case, the “in hand” symbol color is not automated, it has to be changed manually.
So I also wondered that since the symbol of a bag is used, maybe BFVA started printing MOC cards already and the green MOC cards are already in the designated goodie bag.
I can’t imagine what it is like to have the space for 1400 numbered goodie bags and filling them with the correct name tags, MOC cards, avatar tiles, etc.

Benjamin C GoodParticipant>> What does the “in hand” column mean for MOC registration? I am confusion.
As far as I know, it’s just a fancy way for saying it’s been selected. In the past, I’ve sometimes printed my own MOC cards in the convention hall, and in order for them to be sent to the printer, you have to have them in hand.
I’ve always found it to be a confusing system, and it very much gives off that vibe of “made by an engineer who doesn’t understand how regular people operate”. If there’s any other use for having stuff in hand besides printing MOC cards, I’m not aware.
July 18, 2025 at 5:29 am #65184
Benjamin C GoodParticipantAs usual, the Holiday Inn is a huge disaster. I called the 888 number and he found my reservation and I thought it was gonna work, but at the very end he got an error message when he tried to put in my cc. He nonetheless gave me a confirmation number, even though I’m not sure what it’s accomplishing, and then transferred me directly to the Dulles Expo HI.
The guy at the hotel couldn’t find the reservation, took my information, said he’d call back. He called back while I was typing this. He asked if I made the reservation individually or through a group block, even though I’d already said BrickFair multiple times. He said he would leave my information for the hotel people when they come in when the hotel opens in the morning – what the crap? – and they’d call me then.
I don’t know that there’s a name for the sound equivalent of the deer-in-the-headlights look, but whatever it is, both people had it in these conversations. It was as if the idea of a person calling a hotel about their reservation was the most bizarro baffling concept they’d ever heard of. I opted in to have the email survey sent to me afterwards, and I’m about to see what it says, but right now they’re getting an F.
July 18, 2025 at 5:40 pm #65191
TimModeratorwhen the hotel opens in the morning
I did not realize that hotels “closed” at night. It’s somewhat fundamental of the business to be open all the time (I’m sure he meant when the manager comes in the morning but I found that statement odd). I certainly hope everything works out.
July 19, 2025 at 8:17 am #65198
Krista KModeratorI feel like booking the hotel has always been unnecessary complicated. Calling the hotel directly (even though the directions say otherwise) has been the most successful for us.
Just a heads up. Our plans are changing and we will likely be in early on Wednesday. Will has a client to meet with in the area so Z and I will come set up. I’ll update when I have that confirmed.
Also, Skip asked me to let everyone know that there’s a new game he’s running. It’s a beverage swap.
Beverage Draft
This is an opportunity to try some of your fellow AFOLs’ favorite unique and interesting beverages! The draft will be conducted in two rounds – Round 1 will be non-alcoholic beverages (like soda, tea, and other non-carbonated drinks), and Round 2 will be alcohol-based beverages (like beer, hard cider, and other low-alcohol drinks). To participate, bring a six-pack – bottles or cans, preferably cold! – of a beverage you’d like to share. Please, no standard commercial products (i.e. regular Pepsi, Diet Coke, Bud Light, Rolling Rock, etc.). You must be of legal drinking age to participate in the alcohol round (IDs will be checked!). Participants will be given a number, and beverages will be picked in order just like a parts draft.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Alexis and I will either be there early or mid afternoon Wednesday. We are still deciding if we are going to Mount Vernon or not before we head to the convention center. If we end up coming straight to the convention hall we will help set up as well.

I was just looking at this a few minutes ago. Seems fun and something we might have to do…. Now I just gotta figure out what to get

I don’t know if you’ll be able to get an order from Redbubble in time. The link is on the right side under Group Links.
You could check with @tfdesigns as he was printing some shirts too. LUG Shirts by Frost
Also, I have your brick badges that I’ll be bringing too. 🙂
