Will McDineParticipantSo slight change in plans for Alexis and I. Unfortunately Alexis will no longer be able to attend the convention due to some health issues with our pup. After talking it over with Alexis and family I will still be joining and plan to be down there Wednesday afternoon.
While we are down there is anyone interested in a trip to the Udvar Hazy Center? For anyone who doesn’t know it is an extension of the Smithsonian Air and Space museum and it is full of Aviation history including Military, Civilian/Commercial, and Space. Parking is $15 per vehicle but admission to the center is free.

Greg SchubertParticipantParking is free at the air museum in Chantilly after 4:00, the museum closes at 5:30.
P.S. the Air Force museum in Dayton OH is even more spectacular … and also free!

Huh, Interesting! Last year I spent nearly 3 hours walking around the museum so I don’t think going that late will work for me. I appreciate the info though. And I had no idea there was an Air Force Museum in Ohio. Ill have to check it out one weekend!

Chris HeldParticipantHello all,
My name is Chris and I have been a long-time builder, collector, and seller. I joined the group some time back and have exchanged a few messages with Josh but unfortunately have yet to attend an event. I am planning on attending Brickfair Friday afternoon and Saturday. I see the LUG has a table. I did not register any MOC’s as this is my first convention and was unsure of all the requirements or logistics. Not sure how many are attending but I’m looking forward to meeting some of you all there.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio – https://www.wpafb.af.mil/
On topic – I have finished the towers of the great hall and will have the new roof completed tonight. I will still need to install the lights but am hoping to have that all done by tomorrow night. Then it is just finishing the details and packing everything up for next week!

Thanks @tfdesigns. I put in an order form. I will have the money for you at Brickfair.

Greg SchubertParticipantI last displayed at BFVA in 2017, so some details are fuzzy. Each exhibitor goody bag will have one free ticket for … Sunday 10-4? 10-2? 12-4?

taflavinParticipantHello All! — Just wanted to let you all know that I will probably have some extra space on my table if anyone needs it. I have a whole 8ft table but it turns out my MOC isn’t that big. I’ll have a couple feet to spare. I am going to bring some extra stuff to fill in but if anyone needs space for their MOC maybe we can work something out when we set up. Look forward to seeing you all there!

If you have not been to the museum at Dulles/Chantilly yet and/or want to see Space Shuttle Discovery, go while you are there. It will be moving to Houston at some point in the semi-near future.
July 28, 2025 at 2:36 pm #65384
Gabe VisticaParticipantALLEGEDLY moving. The bill was vague enough that Starliner Calypso could be sent to Houston instead, and it’s not clear if Discovery could feasibly be moved for three times the amount provided.

Somebody asked about it on Yak, the free ticket is still Sunday only. The full schedule is available on the site, public hours are 10-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.

Greg SchubertParticipantIs anyone interested in getting a table for the yard sale at BFVA?
Also, if you’re not sixf00t4 and want to appear to be as tall as Todd Webb, just stand on the curb. 😀

taflavinParticipantI was thinking about bringing some stuff for the yard sale. Mostly sets I have sitting around that I probably will never build. I have never done this before – Is this a good place to sell them? I’m not motivated enough to list them on ebay or bricklink.

The yard sale is very popular, there will be a lot of sellers and a lot of shoppers. But I’ve bought little and never had a table, so I don’t know what kind of business you can expect to do.
I can’t find the Yard Sale information on the BrickFair site, does anybody know where it is? I can’t see where to sign up either, which means there may have been a deadline that has passed, or it is full. Unless the rules have changed, though, it’s a flat rate per table, and everything you have for sale has to fit on the table.

You can find the information if you go to the schedule and click on ‘Yard Sale Thursday’. It is $10 for 1/2 table and $20 for whole table. You cannot sign up until after you have checked in to the event.

That’s good to know, thanks, I don’t think I’d figured out that the schedule is interactive.
July 29, 2025 at 7:39 pm #65407
Greg SchubertParticipantThe one time I wanted to sell at the yard sale, the tables were already taken by the time I signed in.
I think there are deals to be had, especially considering that buyers won’t be paying for tax & shipping and sellers won’t have bricklink/eBay & PayPal fees (only the $10 up front cost.)
July 30, 2025 at 3:39 pm #65411
Greg SchubertParticipantTo give an idea of the scope of the BFVA convention, the website indicates that “601 reg[istrant]s (out of 1,328) have registered 2,869 MOCs.”

Benjamin C GoodParticipantI hadn’t checked my YT subscription page since last week. This one finally got posted, whoop! I haven’t watched it yet.

DanParticipantI wonder if the new IKEA will impact BrickFair next year?
September 26, 2025 at 9:32 pm #66128
Benjamin C GoodParticipantI had not heard about the Ikea until Dan’s post. I don’t see how this is anything other than an epic disaster for BrickFairVA.
I went on the site, and somebody’s brought it up on Yak already, and so far Todd’s only response is “Well **** me.”
The first two years (which I didn’t attend), BrickFair was at the Sheraton in Tyson’s Corner, and somebody else pointed out that that building is already being converted into an apartment building. And I’m pretty sure the reason Todd left the Sheraton is that BrickFair had already outgrown it.
September 26, 2025 at 9:47 pm #66130
Greg SchubertParticipantHe will have to book a space for next year fast.
There is the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in DC, but I’ll bet that is pricey.
An indoor gym at a large college might work, as long as the football team doesn’t need it.
IDK, that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.
