So I got a call back from Mike, one of the other manager’s at the Homestead D&B today. He apologized that he wasn’t able to return our messages this past weekend but he was glad to hear that things went well at the event last night and the previous one 2 weeks ago.

Mike also mentioned that he talked with his GM and they are interested, if we would be, in hosting a display of Lego from our group. He had 2 potential locations in mind, either in the room that has the giant TV or off to the one side of the lobby. I’m waiting for him to email me pictures of the two locations but it sounds like an interesting potential collaboration especially since we just stopped doing the Science Center.

One of the things to think about is that as of right now, it probably wouldn’t be an enclosed display case/area but again we are just starting to talk about things. I’m sure most people would want that added protection but he did say they would definitely have stanchions up to keep people from getting too close. He mentioned that right now they are doing a big thing with Hot Wheels and some new game they are doing a contest with so a racing theme (F1 anyone?) could be neat to do in conjunction but he said really we could do anything we wished.

He also mentioned that they do event nights there like super hero night, Star Wars night, etc and would like to do a Lego themed night. I mentioned that at some places like the Fayette County Fair, we have play brick and sometimes do contests for best build and he loved that idea.

So, some preliminary information and possibilities for a new place to display our creations, definitely with a lot of public exposure, and other events. I also mentioned to them that we are doing our own event in November and looking for sponsors and he said he would talk with his GM about that.

So, let’s discuss! What do you think?

This produces a hard No from me. There is no way the staff could safeguard any display we had. And with the number of kids and teenagers there, stuff would go missing very quickly. Without a locked and secure display case, I would not be interested (unless it was a one-off event where LUG members were staffing the display area during the entire event).

This is why discussion, I figured that would be the case (haha) so definitely something we need to express to them.

Just in case, there’s a case for a case to safely encase, I might be interested.

I have steel related train rolling stock that could be in a static display relevant to the steel and train history there. Torpedo car, slag car, coil car, etc, and my beautiful PRR Mountain 4-8-2 locomotive that would all look great on shelves.

I also have my own vehicle mocs like unusual cars and supercars in Speed Champion size (Lambos, Bugatti, Cizeta, Mitsuoka etc.), a collection of the recent F1 speed champion cars, and I have the giant Lamborghini Sian, Bugatti Chiron, and Ferrari Daytona UCS technic sets as well as the giant Delorean and Lamborghini Countach for 80’s retrowave. So if you need cars, I may be the guy.

However, anything I’d consider lending would need to be documented and locked behind glass because the Waterfront does have known problem of vandals and thievery and these are very expensive sets and MOCs, some of which may be irreplaceable in today’s market. Does DB have insurance to cover things loaned on display? Do we do that in general with other displays like at the Carnegie Science Center?

Did they ever send pictures? Perhaps we could do a display and game night where we rotate between displaying/eating/playing.

I still need to get pictures and return a call. I think Mike (the other manager there) was hoping I could come out and see things prior to me heading to Florida (did not happen) BUT I do think they have a case for us. Potentially, as part of their Hot Wheels promotion they are doing, they would like some race cars and specifically a corvette made that would go in a case. They do have several cases throughout the venue but most of the time they have other things in them like prizes and such.

I’m going to call him back and get more details and figure out where things would be located, etc and what our options are and get photos sent to me.

Sounds good! If our models are secured in a case this sounds much more appealing.
