Been working on another Lamborghini Diablo variant: the GT1. It was built to take on Le Mans in the 90s but only two examples were built and it never raced in the historic 24hr race. This version is based on the one that went on to Japan.
According to various sources, this 2500 – 2300 lb beast has 655 hp. Even the Diablo Jota was rumored to have “only” 630 hp. So in theory, having been built from the ground up as a race car only resembling the Diablo road car, the Diablo GT1 could have taken on the McLaren F1 GTR. It could have won Le Mans and rewrote history. But things happened financially.
Now it’s in my roster of summer projects to add to my collection of Lamborghini Diablos.
