I’m in the process of moving steelcitylug.com to a different host.

The cost is 296.55 for 1 year. I think we’ll see a strong improvement, specifically on things like the gallery, uptime, and response time. It will also open the door for future server/db intense efforts I’d like to do.

The current site is https://site84125-fe515w.scloudsite101.com/ until I move over the DNS. You’re welcome to login with your current credentials and play around. I’ll wipe the database there this friday or saturday when I cut over the DNS.

    My ask now is:
    1) I’d like approvals (or pushback) on spending the money. it’s a 30 day money back guarantee.

    2) do a side by side comparison on load times and let me know if you see a difference – easiest to see the difference with the yearly report

    v2

    3) keep reporting slowness/down for the current site here or in discord so we can see how often we’re having problems. I’m seeing issues at least weekly since August.

It’s soooooo much faster! Only problem I’m having on mobile ios is the header/banner takes up half the page. Doesn’t look like a way to minimize.

I’m in favor of updating the host. Do we still share bandwidth with other sites? I think you mentioned that was part of the slowdown issue?

no more sharing. it’s our server.

good call out – template/theme/menu will certainly be updated as we go along https://www.steelcitylug.com/forum/topic/new-theme-for-the-website/

Spot check says the VPS is way faster. I approve the migration spend.

So on the current site, I login with my wordpress.com account (I don’t have a unique login to the current site). I don’t see that option on the login page of the new site. Is that a setting that needs changed, or did we lose that functionality?

I’m not a programmer guy but if you got it showing faster speeds, I definitely approve! XD

interesting…should be fine, but I wonder if it’s because your account was synced with steelcitylug.com and not the new(tempoary) url. it should work once the cut over happens.

Did you try using your WordPress login on the site and it didn’t work, or did you not try because you didn’t see the button your used to seeing?
