I haven’t ordered the pizza yet. I’m waiting on seeing how many people end up coming. There’s a few snacks out though.

I’m glad there are some of you that can make it. Like before, I’ll order a few pizzas.

So the next question would be, does Walter have a specific amount of stuff he’s bringing, or are we just hoping he can fill the available space? (He does generally have a bunch of stuff built at any given time.)

I will be using an area the size of a Lug table for an underwater scene with a monorail. Not exactly space, but maybe another planet. I can do a space scene also if we are short on displays but I have some limits on what I can transport.

There’s some really great Febrovery stuff this year.

Ive been posting all this month to Flickr and Instagram. So far, this is my best Rover.

Can we just make it the Q1 2021 build challenge? 2 birds with 1 stone and saves extra logistics.

I agree that this is a good Idea. I’m a little confused by the Q1 20/21 thread. Has there been any decision/ consensus on when the Q1 meeting will take place?

Here is the M:Tron Magnetic Detector. 31 parts without the fig.

In fact, I’m happy enough with it that I plan to keep all the parts intact for the time being. If Covid ever ends, I am hoping that Walter @whitesidewjw will once again invite us all over for a build day like he did twice before. If he does, I would be interested in using all his fancy stuff again – the backdrop, the tan mat, the powerful lights, just like I did for the Perfume-Tron build a year ago – so that I can get some quality photos of this build that I can post to Flickr. Obviously the ones I came up with today aren’t cutting it. I would be willing to come up with some better space plant background landscaping (hopefully without going overboard) for such a photo session.

I can’t wait to have another space build!

Who coordinated with Chad last time? I’m curious as to how much space we asked or had last time. Also, do we feel that we need more?

I think we should negotiate as large of a footprint as we can manage. I know we can show displays with architecture, Christmas, Harry Potter, trains, and of course there’s a bunch of us with our own different takes on space.

Paula indicated that the next AFOL day is January 18 and that would be a good day to remove the winter display, partly because the store will open early. Of course, the new display installment does not depend on the removal of the current display because the new display will be using a different display case.

I chatted with Paula a couple days ago. The hangar display will be going in the back display on AFOL day. I will be dropping off the hangar part and Rich’s fighters with Tom Frost. I cannot be there that weekend since I will need to be out of town. I think there is still some room for a few small mechs and some minifigs. This is a small display measuring approximately 20” wide by 19.5” tall by 15” deep. The size limits how much can go in it.

@whitesidewjw, let me know how many people attend as the LUG will get credit for a Community Meet-Up (which helps us maintain our LUG status with Lego). Thanks!

I’ll let you know what the turn out is.

Ben, Dan, Sean, Rich, and Tom came for the space build.

We got some planning done for the January Lego store display and Rich’s space fighters look great.

@bengood921 That time works well for me. I have ten modulers that are built.

Since I was the one who suggested using Walter’s buildings, I guess I should be the one to go pick them up from his house. Which pretty much leaves us with tomorrow (Thursday) evening. @whiteside Walter does what work for you? Any time in particular work? Do you have cardboard or plastic containers you can put them in for protection during transport? I do not have much here for that, although I might be able to come up with some Sterilite containers they can sit in. I can then return them either Saturday evening or Sunday.

    @bengood921
I’ll be around tonight. I don’t have any boxes, so the Sterilite containers would be handy.

@whitesidewjw has suggested that it would be cool to have a maintenance & refueling mech “pit crew”. However, it’s best to know the color blocking first so that crew can be quickly visually connected to the craft they’re working on. I’m leaning in a black-white-LBG direction, but that may change as I start putting other elements together and determine the best color “splash” on the starfighters. Therefore, the figs might be better determined after the craft are built.

I totally agree. – If you do end up going black & White in the craft, what do you think about green as the major color for the pit crew? Whatever color you decide, I can’t wait to see pics of the fighters.

For the outside “construction crew” What dot you think about M:Tron?

When we were at Build Day at Walter’s House, I noted that he has nearly all of the Cafe Corner series of buildings, assembled and on display in his Lego room. I tried to convince him, unsuccessfully, that if he took them all apart, it would give him a lot of pieces he could use towards cool space builds. So then instead, at Q2, I nagged him that if he has those buildings and he’s not gonna take them apart, then he should put them to good use and bring *all* of them to this event. He seemed more receptive to that idea @whitesidewjw

While an architectural space build would be interesting……

I can’t make it to the event that day, but would be glad to lend my modulars for it.

Fighters: my G-Fighter series are all 32×32 studs, which is also 10 inches square. 8 inches square might therefore be pretty tight, even at 24 studs square.

I recommend 16×16 square to 20×20 at most. It’s also reasonable to make this wing of spacefighters narrower and longer in individual footprint.

I’ll take a look tonight to see if I can bash out four cockpit boxes right quick. If I can, the parts selection there in cockpit and common canopy might set the tone. The Ace craft is best festooned in big color splashes over the same general livery. The main problem after that is getting the right figs for pilots and ground crew.

The challenge here is that the fighters will be in front of the inside wall of the hangar, thus creating the front facing stage. when facing forward to the display, the the main door will be on the left side and some architectural/ large greabling con the far right. The three fighters will have larger than minifig size Mechs for craft support. Since the back of the display will be an outside scene (narrower then the inside), there is not a huge amount of space. I cant wait to see the pics of your fighter concepts.

TLG may be a little disconnected from their fans but the are a toy company whose function is to make a profit. If I had my way, they would be producing classic space along with other future themed (non licensed) sets. A lot of other AFOLs say the same thing but there are not enough of us to make those kind of things sell enough for TLG to make those sets with frequency.

Really I think the biggest supporter of the AFOL community is Bricklink. It’s really what makes most of out MOCs possible. I also like what bricklink is doing with the 60 year anniversary set. I may back the Löwenstein Castle but I haven’t decided.

Thanks everyone for coming over for the space build. I’m excited to do another one.

I think the most important thing we talked about was the ideal house for the Lego Hobby. That is a room for storage, a room for building and a room for display. Now I just need to convince my wife.

    I’m down!

I *might* be able to come for this. I want to. Too soon to tell for sure

Oooh, it looks like I’m for this one after all. So I’ll be there at noon.

I’m looking forward to meeting up with everyone for a space build.

Hey, @whitesidewjw, when I come over, I’d like to bring a couple of blue, checkerboard patterned shipping containers for you to look at and potentially improve to add as “yours”, in your style, as part of my eventual Space / shipping container SHIP. Are you interested in evolving these, whether keeping them or just improving them at your place?

This sounds interesting. I can’t wait to see them.

Where will this be located and are you planning to tackle the Cranberry display at all?

I live in the South Hills- Mt. Lebanon, off of Bower Hill Road. I haven’t really thought of the Cranberry display but we can talk about it. I’m up for displaying something.
